Virtual Reality
This project addresses the underrepresentation of Afrofuturism in metaverse spaces such as Meta Horizon Workrooms. By blending nostalgic elements of Lagos with futuristic design, it creates an Afrofuturistic workspace that honours the city's heritage while inspiring innovation within its creative community. The project was exhibited at the University of Hertfordshire's postgraduate final show as the culmination of my dissertation.
Problem
The use of the metaverse (virtual reality) for collaboration among teams is on the rise, with 51% of Gen Z expected to see themselves working in virtual environments in the near future. Despite this growth, African culture remains underrepresented in the metaverse, and Afrofuturism (a genre of African science fiction) has minimal influence in these collaborative virtual spaces, especially within Lagos' creative design industry.
Solution
Design an immersive environment as a proposed theme for meta horizon workspace, an office space in metaverse that allows only one meeting room currently, the project seeks to provide Afrofuturistic creatives in Lagos with a collaborative meeting room that combine technology, nostalgia and cultural heritage of Lagos city known as Èkó.
70%
Engagement
At the Ekospace exhibition, I presented an interactive virtual reality project that achieved a 70% engagement rate within five days. The VR experience design effectively captivated attendees, significantly exceeding typical benchmarks.
